Proud Sponsor of the 2012 HHFF Biological Woodsmen's Week
Biological Woodsmen’s Week
October 15 through October 21 at 1:00pm EST
New Meadow Farm 863 Lotts Rd, Raphine VA
Week-long event October 15-21, 2012 starts daily at 9:00 AM, made possible
through the generosity of the Virginia Horse Industry Board and New Meadow
Farm.
Come join the H. H. Horse Loggers from History Channel’s Ax Men!
Please join us for our very special guest speaker, Mr. Wendell Berry,
immediately following the Draft Horse Pull on Saturday evening October 20
starting at 6 PM.
Jason Rutledge and his Biological Woodsmen of Healing Harvest Forest
Foundation will have their annual week long educational event,
demonstrating restorative forestry on a worst first single tree selection basis
and harvesting with horses…the most environmentally sensitive method of
overland extraction. Tours throughout each day by horse drawn conveyance
from the farm’s arena to the work site in the woods. This forested property is
in need of work. By thinning the diseased, declining and dead trees, the
healthy trees will have room to grow to their full potential. This is the perfect
opportunity for the public to learn more of the details of how each tree is
selected for harvesting, some unique directional felling techniques, and of
course horse logging. Various other exhibits and demonstrations are
scheduled, including sawmilling, equine healthcare, horse drawn farm
implements and more.
Take exit 205 off Interstate 81 toward Raphine. Follow the bright green signs.
